Let us preface with something, and we’ll say this loudly for the people in the back: No dog breeds have a predisposition for violence. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), however, a dog’s genetics may predispose it to perform certain behaviors, including aggressive behavior. Of course, enormous behavioral variation is exhibited within dogs of the same breed. Environment, socialization, and early training also make an enormous difference on a dog’s behavior, but no matter how well you nurture some breeds, it’s possible they’re still not breeds that make a great fit for families with kids.
Aggressive behavior doesn’t necessarily mean attacking or purposefully harming. That behavior could mean nipping and jumping, or that aggression could actually be possessiveness or an instinct to protect. Not all aggressive dog breeds are large breeds, either.
